Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about CBD oil, our products, ordering and Australian regulations.

CBD Oil in Australia

Do I need a prescription to buy CBD oil in Australia?

Australian regulations around CBD oil are managed by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA). Since February 2021, pharmacists can supply certain low-dose CBD products (Schedule 3) without a prescription. Higher-dose CBD products remain prescription-only (Schedule 4). The rules can vary, so we recommend speaking with a healthcare professional or pharmacist to understand what applies to your situation.

How much does CBD oil cost in Australia?

CBD oil prices in Australia vary widely depending on the concentration, spectrum type, and brand. At Stillroot, our range starts from products with 3000 mg of cannabinoid content and goes up to 12000 mg. We keep our pricing transparent with no hidden fees or inflated “compare at” prices. You can browse our full range and current pricing on our shop page.

What are the side effects of CBD oil?

We are not qualified to provide medical advice on side effects. The TGA and published research literature discuss potential interactions and considerations. We strongly recommend consulting your doctor or pharmacist before using any CBD product, especially if you are taking other medications. A healthcare professional can assess your individual circumstances.

Can I take CBD oil with other medications?

We cannot provide medical advice about drug interactions. CBD is known to interact with certain enzymes in the liver (particularly CYP450 enzymes) that metabolise many common medications. It is essential to consult your doctor or pharmacist before using any CBD product if you are currently taking prescription or over-the-counter medications.

Will CBD oil show up on a drug test?

Standard workplace drug tests typically screen for THC, not CBD. However, full spectrum CBD oil contains trace amounts of THC (below 0.3%), which in rare cases may trigger a positive result, particularly with frequent use or very sensitive testing. If drug testing is a concern, broad spectrum CBD oil (which contains zero detectable THC) may be a more suitable option. Consult your healthcare provider for personalised advice.

What does the TGA disclaimer on your site mean?

The TGA (Therapeutic Goods Administration) is Australia’s regulatory authority for therapeutic goods, including CBD products. Our disclaimer states that our products have not been evaluated by the TGA and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. This is a standard regulatory requirement in Australia. It means you should make purchasing decisions based on factual product information and professional medical advice, not marketing claims.

Understanding Our Products

What is the difference between CBD oil and hemp seed oil?

Hemp seed oil is cold-pressed from hemp seeds and contains no cannabinoids (no CBD, no THC). It is primarily a nutritional oil rich in omega fatty acids and is widely available in supermarkets. CBD oil is extracted from the flowers and leaves of the hemp plant and contains cannabidiol (CBD) along with other cannabinoids and terpenes. They are completely different products despite both coming from the hemp plant.

What does “full spectrum” mean on a CBD oil label?

Full spectrum means the oil contains the full range of naturally occurring cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids and plant compounds found in the hemp plant — including trace amounts of THC (below 0.3%). This combination is often referred to as the “entourage effect”, a term used to describe the interaction between these compounds. Broad spectrum is similar but with THC completely removed.

What is the difference between CBD, CBG and CBN?

CBD (cannabidiol), CBG (cannabigerol) and CBN (cannabinol) are three distinct cannabinoids found in the hemp plant. CBD is the most widely known and researched. CBG is sometimes called the “mother cannabinoid” because other cannabinoids are biosynthesised from CBG-A during the plant’s growth cycle. CBN forms naturally as THC degrades over time and is commonly associated with evening routines. Each has a unique chemical structure and interaction profile with the endocannabinoid system.

What strength of CBD oil should I choose?

The right strength depends on your individual needs and experience with cannabinoid products. Our range includes 3000 mg and 12000 mg options. Many people new to CBD start with a lower concentration and adjust from there. We recommend consulting a healthcare professional who can provide guidance based on your specific circumstances.

What carrier oil is used in your CBD products?

All EU Labs CBD, CBG and CBN oils sold at Stillroot use MCT (medium-chain triglyceride) oil as the carrier. MCT oil is derived from coconut oil and is widely used in cannabinoid products because it is easily absorbed and has a neutral taste. The full ingredients list is displayed on each product page.

Can I give CBD oil to my pet?

We carry a Pet CBD Oil (2000 mg Full Spectrum) that is specifically formulated for animal companions with an adjusted concentration. Human-grade CBD oils may not be suitable for pets due to concentration differences and carrier oil ingredients. Always consult your veterinarian before giving any cannabinoid product to your pet.

Quality & Testing

What is CO2 extraction and why does it matter?

Supercritical CO₂ extraction uses pressurised carbon dioxide to pull cannabinoids, terpenes and other naturally occurring compounds from the hemp plant. It is considered the gold standard in the industry because it leaves no solvent residue, preserves the full spectrum of plant compounds, and produces a clean, consistent extract. All EU Labs products sold at Stillroot use this extraction method.

What is a Certificate of Analysis (COA)?

A Certificate of Analysis is a document from an independent, accredited laboratory that verifies the contents of a product. For CBD oil, a COA typically shows cannabinoid concentrations (CBD, THC, CBG, CBN, etc.), terpene profiles, and screens for contaminants like heavy metals, pesticides, and residual solvents. We publish COAs for every batch on each product page so you can verify exactly what is in your bottle.

How do I read a CBD oil lab report?

A CBD oil lab report (Certificate of Analysis) contains several sections. The cannabinoid profile shows concentrations of CBD, THC, CBG, CBN and other compounds — usually in mg/mL or percentage. The contaminant screening section shows results for heavy metals, pesticides, microbial organisms and residual solvents — all should read “not detected” or below the limit of quantification. The batch number on the report should match the batch number on your product label.

Is your CBD oil made in Australia?

Our CBD, CBG and CBN oils are manufactured by EU Labs in GMP-certified facilities in Europe using organic European hemp. The finished products are then imported and sold in Australia through Stillroot. We chose EU Labs for their strict manufacturing standards, supercritical CO₂ extraction process, and comprehensive third-party testing programme.

Using CBD Oil

How should I store CBD oil?

Store CBD oil in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight — a cupboard or pantry is ideal. Keep the bottle tightly sealed when not in use. There is no need to refrigerate it, though refrigeration will not cause harm. Proper storage helps maintain the quality of the oil throughout its shelf life, which is typically 12–24 months from the date of manufacture.

How long does a bottle of CBD oil last?

This depends entirely on how much you use per day. Each 30 mL bottle contains approximately 900 drops. If you take 1 mL (roughly 30 drops) per day, a single bottle will last about 30 days. Smaller daily amounts will extend the duration proportionally. The shelf life of an unopened bottle is typically 12–24 months from manufacture.
